Hundreds of British farmers will be in Morrisons stores speaking to the consumers about the fresh, seasonal produce they are buying on August 10th between 2pm and 4pm
Morrison increasing public awareness
The occasion is part of Farmers Guardian’s 24 Hours in Farming event, which is supported by Morrisons. The initiative aims to increase public awareness of farming by strengthening the links between producer and consumer.
According to a study conducted by the Office for National Statistics, 52 per cent of Brits are often left confused about how the food they buy was produced. With this in mind, Morrisons says events like this are important to help convey the realities of British farming.
Joe Mannion, head of British Livestock at Morrisons, said: “Supermarket customers are sometimes presented with misleading images of farms on their food and we believe that by meeting our real farmers, customers will see and value that we know where our food comes from.”
Activities for children in-store
As part of the event, children who visit the stores will be given goody bags containing produce samples, copies of a special Junior Edition of Farmers Guardian, which can be downloaded here and farming fact sheets, also available to download here.
